Assemblywoman Catharine Baker Issues Statement As Voters Re-Elect Her For A Second Term

"It is an honor to be re-elected as the Assemblywoman for the 16th District. I am profoundly grateful for my family, our tireless volunteers and supporters, our dedicated staff, and the voters of AD16 for giving me the opportunity to serve. I will continue working in a bipartisan manner to make sure our community has an independent and dedicated voice in the Legislature. I will work hard every day with every ability I have to earn your support."

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker represents Alamo, Danville, Dublin, Lafayette, Livermore, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek. This is Assemblywoman Baker’s first term in office. In the Assembly, she’s been focused on improving K-12 education and access to UC schools for Californians, preventing BART strikes, making smarter infrastructure investments, and bringing more transparency and fiscal responsibility to government.

San Francisco Chronicle -- Three Key Races, Vote on the Merits

State Assembly, District 16: The Democratic Party is making a disingenuous attempt to vilify Republican incumbent Catharine Baker in its furious quest for a legislative supermajority. But Baker is a perfect fit for this suburban East Bay district and a prototype of a centrist, serious, problem-solving lawmaker the GOP needs to reclaim its relevance in the state. Democrat Cheryl Cook-Kallio was one of the least prepared legislative candidates we interviewed this year.

'One brave Republican' is one too many for state Democrats

East Bay Assemblywoman Catharine Baker won praise from Gov. Brown for being the “one brave Republican” to cross party lines and vote for the state’s landmark climate change law a couple of months back — but that hasn’t stayed the political death sentence handed down by the Assembly’s Democratic leader.

Humane Society Endorses Catharine Baker For Re-Election

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (R-San Ramon) announced today that she received the endorsement from the Humane Society for her advocacy supporting animal welfare issues.

In their endorsement, the Humane Society states, “California is leading he nation in animal protection policies, and it is because humane lawmakers stand up for the values of protecting animals from cruelty and abuse,” said Sara Amundson, treasurer of the HSLF PAC. “We urge voters across the Golden State to support these candidates….”

Baker stated, “All members of California families, including our pets, need a voice. I thank the Humane Society  for the work they do every day, and I am grateful for their endorsement and recognition of my work to create a better and more humane environment for animals and pets in our community.”

Baker has co-authored animal welfare legislation, and works with local animal welfare groups in the district to promote adoption, spay-and-neuter programs, and pet safety. In support of Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, Baker recently released a video to promote pet adoption from local shelters in the 16th District.

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (R-San Ramon) announced today that the Livermore Independent endorsed her re-election over challenger Cook-Kallio. With this endorsement, every newspaper in the region has now endorsed Baker, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the East Bay Times, and the Pleasanton Weekly.

In its endorsement, the Independent stated, “Baker has stepped across party lines, breaking with the Republican Party on such issues as gun control and climate action. She voted for SB32, extending the climate-change law, and SB350, raising renewable energy goals. She supported 10 of 12 gun control measures that came before the Assembly, including voting to require background checks on the purchase of ammunition. Baker helped to author a bill that provides more resources for veterans to transition to civilian life.”

Baker stated, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Livermore Independent, and I appreciate their recognition of my bipartisan work on issues that are important to our community. In contrast with my opponent, who relies almost exclusively for support outside our district, I’m proud to have earned the support of local elected Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, on every city council and school board in the district, and the newspaper editorial boards in our community.”

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (R-San Ramon) issued the following statement today:

"I took a stand early and publicly not to support Donald Trump, and it lost me supporters. The most recent revelations of his taped statements about women re-affirm my stance not to vote for Trump. As a mother and a woman I find his statements disgusting. A person has to be able to look their children in the eye when they say who they are voting for. I know I can."

Challenge to Assembly District 16 Opponent: Renounce False "Garbage" Attacks

Not one, but two editorial boards (The East Bay Times and The San Francisco Chronicle) have called out Cheryl Cook-Kallio for making false claims in her campaign. The San Francisco Chronicle, just days ago, called out Cheryl Cook-Kallio for lies about Catharine Baker’s voting record. In her latest, “whopper” Cook-Kallio claims that Baker voted against funding cancer screening and medical care for disadvantaged women in California. Here are the facts:

Chronicle recommends: Re-elect Catharine Baker to Assembly

Assemblywoman Catharine Baker proved to be precisely the type of legislator we anticipated when we endorsed her in 2014: independent, pragmatic, serious and focused on issues that matter to an East Bay district that stretches from Lamorinda to the Tri-Valley.
