When I was pregnant with our twins, my husband and I took a trip down Highway 1, traveling from the Bay Area to Santa Barbara. A park ranger took one of our favorite pictures, one of us with California’s iconic coastline in the background. Fast forward a few years to when our twins were on spring break. We took another drive down California’s coast, capturing a favorite picture of the kids together in about the same place. Like hundreds of millions of people who have lived near or visited California’s coastline, we have built happy memories from the one-of-a-kind beauty of our state.
President Trump recently released a plan to open those coastal waters to new oil and gas leases. The administration should shelve its plan and protect California’s coastline.
